The Pentagrams

The pentagrams are usually drawn in the air with the tip of the athame or the forefinger and each is related to each of the elements. It can be seen that the actual motion is a two pattern one, clockwise (deosil) and widdershins (anti-clockwise) used for invoking and banishing respectively. The difference between the elements is then simply that the elemental pentagram in question is invoked with the first stroke clockwise away from that element and banished with the first stroke anticlockwise away from the element.

Frankly, many witches simply use the invoking and banishing pentagrams of spirit or even earth (symbolic of the north, the scared place of power and my preference for pentagrams). its not much fun trying to remember your pentagrams when you are trying to focus on your ritual and draw your energy properly!
